First in the fields

June 2020 - We were some of the firsts in the fields on opening day at our local strawberry farm. With the help of Beau Henry and my mom, we picked over 30 pounds. I’ll turn most into jam, which we’ll use year-round, then we’ll freeze some and the rest will be eaten fresh or made into dessert later this week. Tonight I rinsed them all and laid them out on the counters in the kitchen to dry. I can smell them from where I’m sitting in my favorite chair in the living room. Tomorrow I’ll get to work hulling and slicing. Preserving strawberries is a process, but always worth it when you’re opening fresh jars of jam in the middle of February.
